| We started out by building
a frame to hold the canopy in the same shape as the airplane. |
 |
| The canopy down into position, and
hole in the middle. |
 |
| We put Bondo on the 2x4's and set
the canopy down into the plastic covered bondo to hold the bottom of the
frame. |
 |
| We used a grinder to
remove the old fiberglass and paint. Once we could see the edge of the
old plexyglass is was easy to cut it free. |
 |
| Used a dremel tool to cut the new
Plexy. |
 |
| This is not in its final position
but, its one of the new plenums. |
 |
| The other plenum |
 |
| Since the old frame did not have
a "lip" we used popsicle sticks to hold the new plexy. A hot
glue gun did a great job holding the sticks. |
 |
| sand paper was used to rough up
both sides of the new plexy. |
 |
| glass was placed on the outside
first, that gaps between the plexy and frame were filled from the inside
with glass bondo. filler was used to create a nice shape and curve |
 |
| Dad hard at work. all of this was
done in 1 1/2 days. |
 |
| I touched up the interior, and I
will be replacing the bracket to hold the canopy up. I will be using the
hinge set up that I saw at the Gathering. |
 |
| All I have to do yet is remove the
coating and put trim on the edge. |
 |
| It is hard to tell from this view,
but the paint job came out very good. |
 |
| Shine,,, shine, shine. I painted
it @ 10:00 pm and still got a good paintjob. |
